Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
This announcement is being advertised concurrently with ID-Merit-2014-0063 which is open to all current/former federal employees with competitive civil service status/reinstatement eligibility. Direct Deposit Required. - Design, coordinates, and executes harvest plans for timber product sales.
Performs technical skills involved in timber sale activities such as logging road layout and survey, unit layout and traversing, marking and cruising of timber, mapping, volume computation, and preparation of contracts.
Prepares and administers contracts for tree planting, pre-commercial thinning, site preparation, and insect, and pest and disease control projects.
Performs project planning activity, adapts a design, and coordinates and executes pest management field projects.
Develops a plan which includes selecting the methods for pest detection, collection, identification, control and evaluation. The physical demands of this position are traveling difficult terrain and extreme climatic conditions over long distance by foot, snow machines and 4-wheel drive vehicles. Carrying heavy loads over long distance may be required to reach project locations.

If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. Your rating will be based on your responses to the Job Specific Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. The job specific questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities required to do the work of this position.
KSA 1: Knowledge of the techniques and principles of forest management practices together with skill in applying this knowledge in preparing and developing timber harvest and planting schedules, stand improvement and conversion projects, trespass evaluations, environmental analysis, and determining access requirements.
KSA 2: Knowledge of plane surveying sufficient to layout timber sale boundaries, timber roads, and to locate land lines and cadastral survey monuments.
KSA 3: Knowledge of Dendrology, Silviculture and Forest Ecology of Rocky Mountain Timber Species sufficient to select the best methods of timber harvesting and regeneration on differing aspects, elevations, and steepness of slopes.

For GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-07 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as collecting forest and woodland management data regarding location, volume, rate of growth, and quality of timber; inspecting and reporting on timber sale areas to determine compliance with contract requirements; marking and designating timber to be removed in timber sales or for use disposals.
For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-08 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as collecting forest and woodland management data regarding location, volume, rate of growth, and quality of timber; serving as the contracting officers representative (COR) and inspecting/reporting on timber sale areas to determine compliance with contract requirements; and serving as the crew lead or supervisor for marking and designating timber to be removed in timber sales or for use disposals.
Substitution of Education for the Specialized Experience Requirement:
For GS-08: 1 1/2 years (27 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master''s degree or equivalent graduate degree which includes coursework DIRECTLY related to the work of a forestry technician.
For GS-09: 2 years (36 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master''s degree or equivalent graduate degree which includes coursework DIRECTLY related to the work of a forestry technician.
Education and experience may be combined to meet the specialized experience requirement. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
